Said to be Vale’s first implementation for a Canadian CAPEX project, the SmartPlant Materials tool was selected extensive review of the software capabilities, and will replace Vale’s existing solution.

It will help Vale to track previously procured materials and changes in material requirements while the project continues.

Intergraph process, power and marine president Gerhard Sallinger said: "SmartPlant Materials will enable Vale Canada to optimize its materials management process for increased time and cost savings on this important project."

Vale Canada already implemented the solution in its Brazilian operations.

The company owns licenses for Intergraph products, including SmartPlant P&ID, SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant Electrical, and PDS. These products will also be integrated on the Long Harbour plant.

The Long Harbour plant processes nickel concentrate from Vale’s Voisey’s Bay project into finished nickel and associated copper and cobalt products.
