Meghalaya State Electricity Board has awarded VA Tech Hydro the contract for the 84MW Myntdu Leshka hydroelectric power project, India.

The contract is valued at approximately US$14.3M and comprises design, manufacturing, supply, installation and commissioning of two units of 42MW Francis turbines and generators, digital governors and excitation systems.

The project is located on the river Myntdu in the Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, approximately 130km from Shillong. The contract is expected to be completed in 28 months.

VA Tech Hydro received the order through its Indian subsidiaries VA Tech India and VA Tech Escher Wyss Flovel.

The generators, excitation system, controls and protection will be manufactured at VA Tech Hydro India’s Bhopal plant, and the turbines and governors will be manufactured at VA Tech Escher Wyss Flovel’s Faridabad plant.
