Austrian president Klestil’s recent visit to China has led to two large orders for VA Tech Hydro. The company will supply all the equipment for the Lang Ya Shan pumped storage plant, and for the Dapu multi-purpose project. The two contracts are worth a total US$85.7M.

Anhui Langashan Power Company awarded va-tech-hydro the contract for erection of the 700MW Lang Ya Shan pumped storage project. The parts ordered include the complete electromechanical equipment, pump-turbines, turbine generators, motor-governor sets, voltage control, transformers, switchgear, protection and control. The plant will supply power for the Anhui province when it goes on line in four years.

Liuzhou Guiliu Hydropower Company commissioned VA Tech Hydro to supply electromechanical equipment such as bulb turbines, generators and transformers for the 3×32.6MW Dapu project. Dapu will contribute to the local power supply while providing irrigation and flood protection for the province of Guangxi. Completion is scheduled for 2003.

VA Tech has supplied generators, turbines and other equipment for hydro plants in China since 1978. The company has been involved in the construction of most of the country’s pumped storage plants, including Shisanling and Tianhuangping.
