The Uttar Pradesh government has approved three new projects, which includes building 30 megawatt (MW) Dhukua hydro power project, 1,000 MW coal fired power project at Obra and handing over power distribution system of Agra city to Torrent Power Limited. 2X500 MW Obra C thermal plant will be built by UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited with an estimated cost of INR61.751 billion. 30% project cost would be borne by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Remaining 70% cost of the Obra C thermal plant would be raised from financial institutions and banks as loan.

As per a senior official, 200 hectare land required for the setting up of the new power project is already available with the UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited. Besides, permission to utilize 37 cusec water from Rihand reservoir had also been obtained.

The official further quoted that coal linkage for one unit had been received and for long term supply Chendipara coal block had been allotted.
