Sears Holdings will contribute to the program by establishing new waste-prevention activities, expanding or improving its current recycling efforts, and purchasing or manufacturing additional products with recycled content.
Sears Holdings, which currently recycles tires, paper and cardboard and lead-acid batteries, will leverage its established waste-prevention and recycling efforts to initiate various programs as part of its participation in WasteWise.
Joining WasteWise program, which has a broad and varied membership spanning more than 50 different industry sectors, Sears Holdings establishes its commitment to environmental sustainability.
Sears Holdings director of environmental sustainability Michael Brown said that the partnership with WasteWise will help the company learn new waste reduction techniques and best practices that will continue to reduce costs, preserve natural resources and protect the environment.
“Our Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Affairs, Store Operations, and Procurement teams have been proactively working to implement sustainable solutions throughout Sears Holdings Corporation and its US affiliates,” Brown said.
