The US Society on Dams (USSD) presented four awards during its 2006 Annual Meeting and conference, held recently in San Antonio, Texas.

The awards, and recipients, were as follows:

Lifetime achievement award – Thomas M. Leps, for his achievements and expertise in the field of geotechnical engineering over a 50-year career.

Award of Excellence in the Constructed Project – The Saluda Dam Remediation project, which involved building a 2.4km long, 61m high backup dam and has been the largest ongoing dam project in the US for the last three years.

Outstanding Paper Award – Guy Lund, for his paper Stability Evaluation of the Medina Dam. The paper, one of 60 presented during the conference, was selected based on technical content and the oral presentation.

The USSD Scholarship – US$10,000 was given to John D. Rice, a graduate student at Virginia Polytechnic and State University, to support his research Long-Term Performance of Dam Seepage Barriers.
