Proposals for a new 1,500 MW supercritical pulverised coal plant that will be the US’ most efficient have been unveiled.

The plant, which will be located on tribal land in New Mexico would be the cleanest conventional coal facility in the US, and could set a new baseline standard for emissions controls.

The plant, known as the Desert Rock Energy Project, will be developed by Sithe Global Power and will use existing technology to control emissions of NOx and SOx.

The plant would provide power to New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and California.
