This project is a joint undertaking by US and Japan, and is based on the Japan-US Clean Energy Technologies Action Plan.
The contractors will cooperate with the State of Hawaii, Hawaiian Electric Company, the University of Hawaii, and the US National Laboratories in the project.
Japan-based Hitachi will serve as the project leader and coordinate the entire project.
The project, which will cost approximately $37m, is expected to be completed by the end of March 2014.
This project aims to establish a system model for the integration of clean energy and to verify cutting-edge technologies in a smart grid system on Maui.
