The projects would a combined 1,000 wind turbines spanning two sites and covering approximately 219,707a of land.

Located about 10m south of Rawlins in Carbon County, the project is expected to be developed in multiple phases.

Commenting on the projects US Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar said that Wyoming has some of the best wind energy resources in the region and that the project has the potential to be a landmark for the nation.

The Bureau of Land Administration is now expected to carry out an environmental analysis to guage their environmental impact.

BLM Acting Director Mike Pool said,"That includes an extensive environmental review and making sure that we’re mitigating the potential impacts of energy development on our wildlife and our lands."

The project also accomplishes US President Barack Obama’s objective of authorizing 10,000MW of renewable energy generation on public lands in 2012.
