DoE is expected to spend $11m under the initiative to boost the demand for vehicles fueled by natural gas, electricity, propane and hydrogen while expanding options for transportation in the US.
US Energy secretary Steven Chu remarked that the funding will create a cleaner transportation in the country and reduce costs besides increasing refueling options.
"At the same time, these projects will help lead the way to further reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil and protecting our nation’s air and water," said Chu.
The funding will be employed to create physical infrastructure and training fleet operators, mechanics, first responders and code officials on the safety and technical methods along with the streamlining, permitting and procurement processes.
