The measures will increase energy efficiency and bring the US nearer to its clean energy future.
The measures will cut carbon pollution by about 300 million metric tons through 2030 and save homes and businesses over $10bn on their energy bills. The plans include investing $68m in 540 renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in rural areas throughout the US, including 240 solar projects.
The measures include supporting funding for clean energy and energy efficiency for affordable housing as well as strengthening commercial and residential buildings codes.
About 50 firms, states, communities, and multifamily housing leaders throughout the US are announcing commitments to deploy onsite solar energy and improve energy efficiency.
The commitments represent over 35MW of solar power deployed and energy efficiency investments that will reduce bills for more than 400 million square feet of buildings.
The US has increased its electricity generation from solar more than ten-fold since the President took office.
In a separate release, the DOE has unveiled $2m in funding for two organizations to support manufacturing of taller wind turbine towers.
The projects by Keystone Towers of Boston, Massachusetts, and Iowa State University will help reduce the cost of wind energy and expand the geographic areas where wind turbines can be installed in the US.
