The Anderson Municipal Light and Power (AML&P) utility will use the TWACS system to reduce costs and improve services to approximately 60,000 residents of the city.
TWACS technology will provide an alternative to monthly meter readings, provide billing data on hourly basis and allow the utility to access customers’ detailed usage of electricity.
Data gathered from the TWACS advanced metering infrastructure solution will help AML&P to better understand the electricity usage pattern of its customers and identify programs that reduce system peaks and keep costs low.
Meters on the TWACS system can also be connected automatically, allowing the utility to eliminate costs related to rolling trucks.
Anderson City Mayon Kevin S Smith said Aclara’s TWACS technology will provide more flexibility to AML&P to implement programs that save money for customers.
"For example, an additional benefit from TWACS is that the utility eventually could institute prepay systems with no additional fees, giving customers more choice in determining how their electricity is delivered," Smith added.
