A US-Chinese consortium has been awarded a contract to build a 700 MW coal fired power plant in the province of Henan. The contract, worth $170 million, was signed during a US trade visit to China.

The consortium comprises Westinghouse Power Gener- ation, Black & Veatch and CMEC of China. It will design and supply both the turbine and boiler islands for two 350 MW coal fired units for the Yuzhou Power Plant. The project is being financed by the Asian Development Bank.

Project construction is expected to begin later this year, and the units will enter commercial service in the first quarter of 2001.

Two steam turbine generators for the station will be built in the USA.
