GE Hydro Asia has been awarded a US$37M contract for the supply of turbines and other equipment to the Pubugou hydroelectric plant in China’s Sichuan province.

The work is to include the design, manufacture and supply of three 560MW Francis turbines, valves, spare parts, installation supervision and technical training. According to GE’s schedule, the first turbine-generator set is to begin generating electricity in November 2008. The other two are to follow in July 2009 and March 2010.

The owner and operator of the new plant is GuoDian Dadu River Hydro Development Ltd. of Chengdu. The Chengdu Hydroelectric Investigation and Design Institute is the architectural engineer for the project.

Rated at 3300MW, the Pubugou project is the fifth largest hydro power station in the country. Once commissioned, it will deliver electricity to the Sichuan power grid.
