The Asian Development Bank (ADB) plans to provide a total of US$370M in loans to the Philippines for the next 14 years to help improve water production and quality at Angat dam in Bulacan.

ADB will provide a multi-tranche financing facility to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the rehabilitation of the dam. The facility will finance rehabilitation of Umiray-Angat Trans basin-tunnel and the Angat Low Level Outlet in order to increase the volume of water that the dam can hold.

Aside from this, the proposed bank loan will also be used for the construction of water treatment plants that will ensure the quality of water that comes from Angat.

Once ADB’s board approves the facility, the procurement for civil works are scheduled to begin by June this year. The entire project is expected to be completed by June 2015.

ADB is currently seeking assurance from the National Government that sufficient counterpart funding will be provided to ensure completion of the project on schedule.
