The assessment will be made on the basis of how best the applications will keep the best interests of the state.

NSW resources minister Chris Hartcher said that promoting the uranium mining industry would considerably improve the economy in the state.

"It is time for NSW to look at every opportunity to join the mining boom which is delivering enormous profits and jobs to Western Australia, Queensland and South Australia," Hartcher added.

Australian Uranium Association chief executive officer Michael Angwin was quoted by ABC as saying that the industry’s impact on western NSW should not be overestimated.

"Our industry is never going to be as big as coal mining; it’s never going to be as big as iron ore.

"It’s a moderately sized industry, but what it does do is add to the portfolio of minerals which NSW can use to develop economically and become more prosperous," added Angwin.
