Honeywell UOP has been awarded a contract to produce key ingredients for fuels and synthetic rubber in China for China’s Lijin Petrochemical plant.

Lijin Petrochemical plant, a subsidiary of the Lihuayi Group, will make use of Honeywell’s UOP C4 Oleflex process to produce isobutylene, which is an important ingredient for fuels and synthetic rubber.

Honeywell’s UOP Butamer process will also be used by Lijin Petrochemical to convert normal butane into isobutane to increase feedstock flexibility for the UOP Oleflex process.

Honeywell’s UOP Process Technology and Equipment business unit senior vice president and general manager Pete Piotrowski said UOP is offering solutions that help producers meet local demand and capture a high return on their investment.

"UOP’s Oleflex technology will be used in China to produce about 1 million metric tons annually of isobutylene, and we look forward to working with Lijin to make this project a success," Piotrowski added.

Scheduled to commence in 2015, the new unit will produce 170,000t of isobutylene product annually at its facility in Shandong Province, China.

UOP will also provide the engineering design, technology licensing, catalysts, adsorbents, equipment, staff training, and technical service for the project, as part of the contract.
