Under the £6.3m contract, awarded under the Warrior Capability Sustainment Programme (WCSP), Ultra’s Precision Air & Land Systems (PALS) unit will supply next-generation power management capability for each of the Warrior vehicle variants.
Ultra chief executive Rakesh Sharma said the program’s first phase has now been initiated and represents six years of investment and support into both WCSP and the company’s relationship with LMUK.
”We look forward to working with our partners to successfully complete the development work and to transition into the production phase of this important programme for the British Army,” Sharma added.
Ultra will use advanced design techniques to boost the power switching density and efficiency within existing vehicle space constraints without the requirement for expensive and bulky cooling systems, seen in conventional AFVs.
All of the engineering development work and manufacturing is scheduled to be carried out at the company’s new Arle Court facility in Cheltenham, UK.
The WCSP development phase is set to complete in 2015 with serial production, valued a further £21.5m to Ultra, beginning in 2016.
