Ulstein Idea Equipment Solutions, a Ulstein Group unit, has secured a contract from Netherland based Offshore Windforce (OWF) for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of two pile gripper frames for UK’s 389MW offshore wind farm Duddon Sands.

The pile gripper frames will be installed on board jack-up platforms that will be used for the installation of the 66 km2 wind farm off the south east coast of Barrow-in-Furness, in the East Irish Sea.

The gripper frames will allow OWF to adjust the inclination angle of the pile during the piling operation and would support mono-piles when placed onto the seabed and joined to their final, fully installed position.

Ulstein will deliver the gripper frames in May 2013.

The West Duddon Sands wind farm installation project, on which construction work has commenced in 2012, will employ 108 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 389MW.

The construction work entails foundations, wind turbines, export and array cables, offshore and onshore substation, grid connection and O&M facilities.

In a joint venture with ScottishPower Renewables, DONG Energy and Eurus Energy, Morecombe Wind is developing the West of Duddon Sands Offshore Wind Farm with commissioning slated in 2014.
