The company plans to install new high-voltage underground cables, starting next month.

The work will affect a route from a main substation in Purley, along Whytecliffe Road North, Purley Park Road, Purley Downs Road, Penwortham Road, Purley Oaks Road, Farm Fields, Briton Hill Road, Arkwright Road, Upper Selsdon Road, Queenhill Road, Littleheath Road, Foxearth Road, Addington Road, Selsdon Park Road, Pixton Way, Bardolph Avenue and Court Wood Lane to the main Addington substation.

UK Power Networks capital programme director Nirmal Kotecha said, ”This essential project represents a major investment in maintaining and improving the energy infrastructure in the Purley and Addington areas for the foreseeable future.”

The company has also secured permission from the Croydon Council to undertake the upgrade, which is expected to run for next one year.

UK Power Networks, which owns, runs and maintains the network in London, as well as the East of England and the South-East, has invested over £500m a year in its networks, since its establishment in 2010.
