UK energy market regulator Ofgem says it will hold the next offshore transmission owner (OFTO) tender in October 2016.

The tender round will be the UK’s fifth for offshore transmission assets and will see bidders competing to own the transmission assets of five offshore wind farm projects with a combined capacity of 2.3 GW.

The transmission assets included in the tender will be those of the 402 MW Dudgeon offshore wind farm, the 336 MW Galloper project, the 580 MW Race Bank wind farm, the 400 MW Rampion wind farm, and the 660 MW Walney Extension project.

Each transmission system is being constructed by the offshore wind farm developer and will include offshore substation platforms, offshore and onshore AC export cables, and an onshore substation.

Ofgem will administer the tender process. Winning bidders will own and operate the transmission systems.
