EDF Energy has submitted an application to develop two new gas-fired power stations with a combined capacity of more than 2,400 MW in the UK.

If approved, the applications will see a combined cycle gas turbine station developed in West Burton and a similar station at Sutton Bridge. The power plants will have capacities of 1270 MW and 1260 MW respectively. Both stations are to be developed at existing generation sites with West Burton home to a 2,000 MW coal-fired station and the Sutton Bridge site the location of a 750 MW gas-fired combined cycle plant.
