UK-based solar energy generator Lightsource Renewable Energy has acquired 6.3MW solar farm developed and built in Southampton by Solarcentury.

As per the terms of the contract, Solarcentury has retained two-year operations and maintenance contract for the project before transferring the responsibility to Lightsource in-house maintenance team.

The project in West End developed on 13.5 hectares features a total of 25,632 JA solar panels. It is estimated to produce enough green electricity to power over 1800 households.

Commenting on the acquisition, Lightsource delivery managing director Kareen Boutonnat said the solar PV plant on Chalcroft Farm is a significant project in attaining renewable energy targets set by UK.

We are pleased to continue working with our development partners like Solarcentury , JA Solar and Hilti to play a key role in delivering these targets," added Boutonnat.

Hilti UK-France regional sales manager Rémy Carera noted: "The installed capacity per solar farm in the UK is increasing every month."
