The wind farm will employ 19 turbines to generate energy enough to power 25,000 homes in the region and reduce 50,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
Infrastructure investment company Peel Energy will develop the project that will service the areas of Frodsham, Helsby, Elton and Runcom.
Commenting on the facility a DECC spokesperson remarked that the onshore wind farm will provide a clean, secure and home-grown source of energy which will reduce CO2 emissions.
"This new wind farm will provide a significant amount of renewable electricity and bring benefits to the local community," the spokesperson said.
Peel Energy is part of the Peel Group involved in delivering low carbon energy in the UK with a balanced portfolio of wind, tidal power, energy from waste biomass plants and current installed capacity under-development of over 3GW.
