Scheduled to be commissioned in the second half of 2017, the Hummel Station power plant will be developed by Panda Power Funds and Sunbury Generation on the site of decommissioned Sunbury Generation LP’s coal-fired plant.
The $160m pipeline will supply natural gas produced in the Marcellus Shale region to the power generation facility as well as deliver natural gas and system reinforcement to distribution systems operated by UGI Penn Natural Gas and UGI Central Penn Gas.
Expected to enter service in early 2017, the 20-inch diameter pipeline can transport 200,000 Dth per day of natural gas.
UGI Sunbury, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UGI Energy Services, is due to file for construction and operation approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
UGI president and CEO John Walsh said: "This project serves to meet the growing demand for natural gas from power generators, while providing greater system reliability and enhancing natural gas availability for our expanding customer base in communities across central and northeast Pennsylvania served by UGI Penn Natural Gas and UGI Central Penn Gas."
The pipeline and power plant projects are expected to jointly create over 800 new jobs.
