The state-run oil body spokeswoman Gloria Sebikari told The Wall Street Journal as saying that the government is planning to license, through an open competitive bidding process, more than a dozen oil blocks which includes at least four lucrative discoveries.
"The announcement of the licensing round for exploration acreage is planned for the end of 2014 and the subsequent award of exploration licenses during the second half of 2015," Sebikari added.
In 2007, the nation imposed a moratorium on oil licensing following confirmation of commercial oil reserves from exploration companies.
Government officials said that the ban aimed to enable the country to seek necessary regulatory framework to ensure the newly found oil and gas reserves development to benefit Uganda.
Global Witness campaigner in charge of Uganda George Boden said, "A new allocation round offers real opportunities for the Ugandan government to get a good deal for its oil and avoid the resource curse."
