Russia’s Unified Energy Systems (RAO UES) plans to develop a 20-year hydropower strategy, according to comments attributed to chief executive Anatoly Chubais. “Our task is to step up re-equipment and modernisation in hydropower sector, for which a 20-year strategy will be developed,” he is quoted as saying.

Planned large hydro projects reportedly include units five and six at the Bureyskaya Hydro development, which would be built on the basis of Chinese electricity supply commitments.
