Uzvodenergo in Uzbekistan reports that it plans two put into operation two new hydroelectric power plants during 2006 at a cost of US$14M.
According to the Interfax news agency, the 2.2MW Shakhimrdan plant is being built on the Koksu river in the Fergana region, while the 6MW Gulba plant is being built on the Dargun irrigation canal in the Samarkand region. They will respectively generate 16MkWh and 29MkWh of electricity each year.
The project’s construction costs will be met by Uzvodenergo. Tenders have been issued for the supply of generating units to both plants.
The two plants are being constructed under a national programme to build small hydroelectric power plants adopted in 1995. A total of 15 plants of a combined capacity of 423MW will be built under the programme by 2010.
