Hydro power

The energy commission, which was launched as a part of 10th Development Plan, was quoted by Anadolu Agency as saying that the major guidelines of the investment plan include energy sources diversification.

Hydroelectric facilities already cater up to 25% of the country’s power requirements. Turkey holds some of the most technically feasible hydro power potential in the continent, reports Anadolu Agency.

Turkey also intends to invest $11bn to boost nuclear power generation, as part of its efforts to reduce dependency on hydrocarbons over the next few years.

It is planning to commence development of the Akkuyu nuclear plant, which features four reactors and is located in the Mersin province on the Mediterranean coast.

Once fully operational, power generated from the Akkuyu nuclear plant will replace 10% of hydrocarbon-generated energy.

Additionally, Turkey is planning to invest approximately $10bn in coal plants in order to boost the share of coal reserves in the economy.

Another $5bn will be invested on natural gas plants.
