UK-based Tullow Oil's general manager for projects, Matthew O'Donoghue has retired and has also stepped down from the company's board of directors.

Mr O’Donoghue joined Tullow in 1987 as general manager in Senegal and was appointed to the company’s board in 1998. During his career, spanning over 35 years in the oil and gas business, he has held a number of senior management positions both in Tullow and with Schlumberger Wireline working in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

In recent years, as general manager for projects, Mr O’Donoghue has managed Tullow’s contracts and procurement function and has guided a number of developments from sanction through to first production.

These projects include the group’s first offshore operated development, Horne and Wren in the UK North Sea and gas developments in Pakistan and Bangladesh. He will however reportedly maintain close links with Tullow in retirement and the group will continue to benefit from his experience and expertise through a consultancy agreement.

Aidan Heavey, Tullow’s CEO, said: Matt has given outstanding service to Tullow for over 21 years. He has been a central figure in Tullow’s growth since the first project in Senegal through to the major development we are now commencing on the Jubilee field in Ghana.
