Trustpower has filed an application for resource consent for its proposed Arnold Hydro scheme with the West Coast Regional Council.

The US$117.6M project, with a capacity of up to 46MW and an annual output of 220GWh, is designed to relieve the growing electricity demand in the West Coast region. Under the Arnold proposal water will be drawn at the existing Arnold dam on the Arnold river, and conveyed to a storage pond and power station before being discharged back to the river via a regulation pond.

TrustPower, New Zealand’s fourth largest electricity retailer, owns and operates 34 power stations that produce electricity exclusively from renewable sources, and is listed on the New Zealand stock exchange.
