To be built at Atchutapuram, Visakhapatnam, the proposed facility is expected to create close to 3,500 jobs.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect has been signed between the company and state government.
The MoU was signed by Industries Secretary S S Rawat and Trina Solar vice president Chen Shou Chung in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababau Naidu, media sources reported.
As reported by The Economic Times, Naidu said that the proposed project would boost energy-efficient practices promoted by the state government.
Though the details of the plant’s capacity have not been disclosed yet, the earmarked investment suggests the the plant would become one of the largest solar PV projects in Andhra Pradesh so far, pv magazine reported.
Trina Solar develops and produces ingots, wafers, solar cells and solar modules. As of 2014, the company shipped solar modules with a total output of 11GW.
In addition, Trina Solar has signed $90m in financing facility agreements with Wells Fargo and Barclays to support Trina Solar US and Trina Solar Singapore’s working capital and business growth.
Earlier in September, Xi’an Longi Silicon Materials also agreed to invest Rs16.7bn ($251.6m) to build a solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh.
