TRC Companies has completed a permitting project and continues to provide design services in support of Axio Power's efforts to install a 2MW photovoltaic (PV) solar facility at a closed municipal landfill in Greenfield, Massachusetts.
In addition to conducting landfill engineering, PV design, and interconnection services, TRC also submitted a Landfill Post-Closure Use Permit application to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP).
Axio received notification of permit approval in August 2010, marking the first Landfill Post-Closure Use Permit issued by MassDEP for a photovoltaic system.
The Greenfield Solar Farm is said to be the first installation of its kind on a closed landfill in Massachusetts and is expected to come online in the spring of 2011.
