The plant is situated in southeastern Pennsylvania, about 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia in Montgomery County.
Transnuclear will manufacture the DSCs, which will be used to store used nuclear fuel, at its North Carolina-based fabricator, Columbiana Hi Tech.
The company said its NUHOMS 61BTH canisters can safely store about 61 used fuel assemblies from a boiling water reactor, and can handle high heat loads.
Transnuclear CEO and president Mike McMahon said the company will continue to provide Exelon with its 61BTH canister technology for safe used fuel storage.
"With our vertically integrated fabricator in place, we are able to assure a cost-effective, high-quality product delivered on schedule to produce safe, low-dose results for our customers," McMahon added.
The company expects to deliver the first four 61BTH canisters in 2014, while the remaining four are planned to be delivered in 2015.
