Total Exploration senior vice president Marc Blaizot said the company’s international deep-offshore experience played a decisive role in winning the license.
"Following French Guiana, Uruguay, Côte d’Ivoire and Mauritania, Total continues to build strategic positions in ultra-deepwater abrupt margin plays. In keeping with Total’s new dynamic in exploration, this license marks the first time that this type of highly
promising play will be explored outside the Atlantic basins," Blaizot said.
The company along with its partners is assured of finding a number of oil and gas prospects on the block.
Total has 40% interest in the license whereas its partners OMV from Austria and Repsol from Spain each own 30% in the permit.
