The order was secured from Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction of Korea and Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan.
Toshiba expects to commence delivery in 2015 and the first unit of the plant is scheduled to start operation in 2017.
The contract was awarded to Toshiba by evaluating performance and reliability of its STGs in coal-fired thermal plants.
The evaluation was undertaken on STGs installed in Vietnam’s Vung Ang 1 thermal plant in Ha Tinh province, and Thai Binh 2 thermal plant in Thai Binh province.
The Vietnam government plans to build a power expansion plan that will increase generating capacity from 26,836MW in 2012 to 75,000MW in 2020 and to 146,800MW by 2030.
Construction of power plants to meet the targets, majority of which are coal fired, is already underway.
Toshiba said it will continue to expand its thermal power plant business in Vietnam and neighboring countries.
Toshiba Group noted that it will look to contribute the economic development in ASEAN by supporting measures to secure stable power supply.
