Toshiba Hydro Power (Hangzhou) will also supply related generating equipment to the hydroelectric power plant.

Toshiba's Energy Systems & Solutions Company thermal & hydro power systems & services division vice president Takao Konishi said: “Demand for renewable energy is growing fast in China, and Toshiba is pleased to help increase capacity.

“We established THPC in 2005 and since then it has installed 87 hydro turbines and hydro pump turbines and 101 generators. This new order builds on THPC’s delivery record in China and its advantages in technology and production quality.”

The contract has been awarded by Sichuan Minjiang Port & Shipping & Electricity Power Development, an operator of river management and navigation facilities in Leshan.

The Qian Wei Hydroelectric Power Plant will be built in the Min River basin.

Toshiba expects to begin the delivery of the equipment from February 2017.

THPC’s bulb hydro turbines are expected to offer to help in realizing highly efficient power generation in rivers with a low head.

Toshiba said: “The government of China is responding to meet increased electricity demand and the need for environmentally friendly and low-cost renewable energy by expanding its plans for hydroelectric power generation, a baseload power supply in China, and plans to increase capacity from 319GW in 2015 to 380GW in 2020.

“Toshiba positions China as focus market for hydroelectric power and continues to strengthen its presence with its technology and accumulated know-how.”
