A consortium of Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Hyundai Engineering Co has been awarded a full turnkey contract for the Olkaria I and IV geothermal plants in Kenya from Kenya Electricity Generating Co.
Located in the Rift Valley 100km northwest of Nairobi, the Olkaria I extension project and the new Olkaria IV plant will have a combined generating capacity of about 280,000kW.
The steam turbines and generators will be delivered in 2013 and the power plants are expected to commence commercial operations in 2014.
