Toshiba said the power systems will be supplied to the Japan-based utility’s Nishi Nagoya thermal power plant located in the city of Nagoya in the Chubu region.
The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with GE to explore sales opportunities collectively of a new combined cycle system, which integrates GE’s 7F 7-series gas turbines with Toshiba’s high efficiency steam turbines and generators.
Post Fukushima nuclear accident, the utilities are installing gas-fired power stations to lessen their dependence on atomic energy as all but two of 50 reactors in Japan remain closed.
Toshiba, which also produces flash memory chips notebook computers and televisions, said it will expand its thermal power business by offering power systems in collaboration with GE.
