Sir David King’s comments to the Financial Times newspaper were, he stressed, purely his own personal views on the issue, and he acknowledged that such a large scale increase in the nuclear field would need solid support from the British public – something that is not yet assured.
Mr King suggested to the newspaper that nuclear would essentially supply the country’s baseload power, with renewables and fossil fuel coming in on top at times of peak demand.
