The third phase will demonstrate proof of concept technologies for the potential commercialization of carbon dioxide storage.
The objective of the project is to store up to one million tons of CO2 per year at Gordon Creek.
The project is estimated to cost $90m, of which up to $67m will be provided by the US Department of Energy and the remaining amount will be provided by the participating organizations.
The field program will also include drilling and/or re-completing monitoring wells, upgrading Thunderbird’s existing injection facility, constructing roads, pipelines and surface facilities, as well as ongoing supervisory and monitoring operations.
