The new system would be used to test and optimize pressurized oxy-combustion technology of UPA for clean coal power generation. The UPA is a JV between ThermoEnergy and ITEA.
Recently, UPA announced it has received a $1m Phase 1 award from the US Department of Energy (DOE) to help fund the project under a special program to advance clean coal and carbon capture technologies.
Construction of the bench scale unit is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2012 at ThermoEnergy’s 48,000ft² manufacturing facility in Massachusetts, US. Fabrication and assembly would be completed in the Q1 of 2013.
The testing, which will be based on techno-economic models provided by MIT, is likely to take place at the new Carbon Neutral Energy Solutions laboratory at Georgia Tech in the US.
