DIEA was created by the Danish Energy Association (DEA) to support the industrial foundation for a smart grid-based society.

Global Smart Grid Federation supports rapid implementation of smart grid technologies by being a global center for smart grid technologies and policy issues.

GSGF chairman Guido Bartels said Denmark has already embarked on a number of exciting and unique smart grid projects.

"The lessons learned from these current and future activities will greatly enhance our knowledge and make GSGF an even more effective advocate for transforming the world’s electricity systems," added Guido.

DEA Intelligent Energy managing director Morten Baadsgaard Trolle said, "In joining the GSGF we have taken the first steps on the path to create a common language for Smart Grid that everyone can understand and act upon."

The DIEA is the eleventh member of the GSGF, with other members namely EDSO for Smart Grids (EU), GridWise Alliance (US), India Smart Grid Forum, Israel Smart Energy Association, Japan Smart Community Alliance, among others.
