Part of the Bhumibol plant in Thailand is to be upgraded under a contract announced at the end of April.

The 40-year old hydro plant, one of Asia’s largest, is owned by EGAT and has been undergoing step-by-step upgrades for some time.

In the latest phase of work, on units five and six, Elin Energieversorgung will modernise the generators, Voest-Alpine will deliver two Francis turbines and other electromechanical components, and Elin Elektrotechnik will install the turbine motor control contre. The companies will work as a group called va-tech.
