Tesla Motors and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) have joined DTE Energy's US DRIVE, a voluntary government-industry partnership focused on research and development of electric vehicles and related infrastructure technology.

The research consortium was being re-named from the FreedomCAR and Fuel Partnership to US DRIVE (Driving Research and Innovation for Vehicle efficiency and Energy sustainability), DTE Energy said.

DTE Energy said the company has been a member of the electric vehicle research consortium since 2008.

Other partners include the United States Council for Automotive Research, the collaborative research company for Chrysler Group, Ford Motor Company, and GM; BP America, Chevron Corp, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil Corp, Shell Oil Products US and Southern California Edison.

DTE Energy is an integrated energy company providing gas and electric utility and energy-related services to businesses and industries.
