Terna Energy’s 155.4MW Fluvanna I Wind farm built with an investment of $250m in Scurry County, Texas has started commercial operations.
The wind farm features 74 wind turbines, each of 2.1MW, that were manufactured by Siemens Gamesa.
The Fluvanna I Wind farm is capable of meeting the power consumption needs of more than 46,000 homes following its connection to the Texas Interconnection power grid.
The onshore wind farm broke ground in December 2016 and was completed inside 12 months.
Terna Energy, which is a member of Greek conglomerate GEK Terna Group, had partnered with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and with a consortium of banks to fund and complete the wind farm project.
In November 2015, Terna Energy had acquired the 380MW Fluvanna Wind Energy Project from Tri Global Energy for an undisclosed price.
The Fluvanna Wind Energy Project will be built in phases with the first one being the operating Fluvanna I Wind farm which has taken the total installed capacity of Terna Energy in the US to 293MW.
The Greek renewable energy company’s only other wind farm in operation in the US is the 138MW Mountain Air Projects in Elmore County, Idaho.
The company says that it is pursuing further investments in the US renewables market.
Overall, Terna Energy’s installed capacity across the world is 941MW. In Greece, it has 516MW of capacity in operation and 102MW in operation in Poland to go along with 30MW installed capacity in Bulgaria.
The company also has 208MW of renewable energy capacity under construction or ready for construction in Greece and abroad.
