California-based instrumentation and engineering service provider Teledyne Technologies has announced that its subsidiary, Teledyne Brown Engineering, has been awarded a $19.4 million contract to manufacture and deliver an initial complement of gas centrifuge service modules.

This contract was awarded by engineering firm Fluor Enterprises, acting as an agent for nuclear fuel producer United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC).

The service modules will reportedly be key components of an advanced gas centrifuge enrichment technology that USEC will use to enrich uranium to make fuel for commercial nuclear power plants. Fluor, a strategic supplier to USEC, is the engineering, procurement and construction manager for the American Centrifuge commercial plant.

The plant will be the only US-based operator-owned enrichment plant in the US, replacing USEC’s older, more expensive gaseous diffusion technology. Teledyne Brown Engineering anticipates delivery of the service modules in the fall of 2008.

Robert Mehrabian, chairman and CEO of Teledyne Technologies, said: Teledyne Brown is a recognized supplier to the nuclear industry. This contract expands on Teledyne Brown’s core manufacturing capabilities in the area of nuclear quality manufactured products.
