Reports suggest that activists are threatening to block work on the 2400MW Tehri hydro power project in India, following the government of Uttaranchal’s proposal to shut down two main tunnels on 31 March that could completely submerge Tehri village.

Any attempt to close the tunnels will be opposed and a spokesman for the activists said the government must first start building the infrastructure required to rehabilitate people still living around the dam.
