Spain-based Tecnatom has been awarded a contract to inspect the control rods at the Krško nuclear power plant in Slovenia.
Spain-based Tecnatom has been awarded a contract to inspect the control rods at the Krško nuclear power plant in Slovenia.
Tecnatom will use its new Cronos inspection equipment for the project, which will involve inspecting each of the plant’s 33 control rod clusters. The work will be carried out during scheduled refuelling outages between 2015 and 2018.
"The major advantage of the Cronos system is its capacity to simultaneously perform ultrasonic and eddy current inspections, using state-of-the-art data acquisition equipment and acquisition and analysis software," Tecnatom said.
The contract is Tecnatom’s first at Krško, a 632 MWe Westinghouse pressurized water reactor that began operations in 1983.
The company has also carried out RCCA inspections at the Angra 1 nuclear power plant in Brazil.
