France-based Technip has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the core process units of Cargill’s new ethanol production plant, situated in Barby, Germany.
Cargill’s new facility includes fermentation unit and a distillation or rectification unit, while ethanol produced at the plant will be used for beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry.
Technip will also assist with the start-up and performance testing of the new units, after completion of the construction works.
The contract, which is expected to be completed by the second half of 2015, will be executed from Technip’s operating center in Düsseldorf.
Technip managing director Mesut Sahin said the EPC contract follows the successful completion of extended basic engineering package performed for Cargill in 2013.
"The new units will accommodate the latest technology developments in this field based on the feedback from a similar plant built by Technip for Cargill at Sas van Gent, The Netherlands in 2005," Sahin added.
